Failsafe Tea's

For those who are tea or coffee drinkers when starting on the the Failsafe diet, it is one thing that is dearly missed and replacements have been hard to find. Tea and coffee are listed as high salicylates and herbal teas as very high salicylates. Decaf coffee has been the only saving grace up until now, hopefully one of the options will save your sanity!
Would love to hear your feed back on these or others you have tried.

Idea: Stuffed Crescent Roll Carrots

This recipe uses an American pre-made dough that isn't suitable for failsafe, but the idea is really cute! Make you own Croissants dough, and leave out the grated lemon peel in the cream cheese filling (could add thinly sliced shallots instead). Something fun to add to your Easter feast!

ANZAC BISCUITS
Cooking For Oscar: There are many versions of the ANZAC biscuit available on the Internet and no-one really knows what the original recipe was. It varied depending on who made them and what ingredients were at hand (it was war time after all). [recipe link]

VANILLA SLICE
SBS Food: Vanilla slice seems to be one of those bakery goodies that's always bought and never made. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to make, though... and how utterly delicious it is when you do. [recipe link]

LAMB ROAST WITH A CELERY PESTO CRUST
Domestic Diva: Lamb is my favourite meat to roast. Usually I do it au-natural, but this time I decided to make it a little more special. The pear seemed to give the meat a beautiful sweetness and the celery pesto was a perfect touch. [recipe link]

Fed Up Fact Sheet

Challenges

cooking-chocolate-taste-test-good-housekeeping
Easter is the perfect time to do an Amines Challenge. You can have the feeling of not missing out and having school holidays at the same time means you can keep tabs easier on what is being consumed at home without all the other daily pressures and interferences.

Fed up has a fact sheet on how to do a food challenge if you are just starting out.

The key is to concentrate on one food chemical at a time and to eat lots of it. As a rule of thumb, 3 days for artificial additives and 7 days for natural chemicals such as salicylates; however, we find that people may need longer for bread preservative 282 (5-7 days or more) and at least 10 days for milk.
The rules of challenge that your dietitian will recommend are:
  • Several days without symptoms before each challenge (ask your dietitian – usually it's 3-5 days)
  • Stick strictly to the elimination diet. Start again at the beginning (several days without symptoms) if you make a mistake.
  • Stick strictly to the challenge foods on your dietitian's list
