Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
What a year 2020 has been! I am sure we all can't wait for it to be over. A magic wand to make everything go back to normal in 2021 would be nice. At least most borders within Australia have opened allowing family to travel and be together for Christmas. Thinking of those who are still separated from loved ones.

Failsafe Foodie: "I was thinking about those rolled pieces of pork that are stuffed with fruit and nuts and are sweet and moist with that naughty bit of crackling on the top. I have done a failsafe version of that. "How is that even possible?" you say. "Massive substitutions" I say; that and a bit of imagination." [recipe link]

Real Failsafe Meals: Panettone which is an Italian sweet bread is usually made for Christmas. It's normally filled with many dried fruits and peels, like currants, raisins and citrus peel. Stuff we can't eat while FAILSAFE.I am not going to claim this to be 'authentic', but I think the intention is clear. This is "Failsafe Panettone" and these can sit proudly at any Christmas table. GIN & PEAR COCKTAIL & MOCKTAIL
|
Domestic Diva: To help celebrate the new year, I thought it was time to indulge in a new cocktail for myself. Gin, whiskey and vodka are all spirits suitable for the failsafe diet. I have been in a rut of occasionally just drinking gin and lemonade lately, nothing wrong with that, but it needed a makeover! [recipe link]

SALTED CARAMEL VODKA INFUSION
|
Mainly, you get this buttery caramelized sugar flavor that’s strong but not heavy. It’s lighter than, say, Baileys or Kahlua. The goal had been to create something that was sweet but sophisticated, and this surpassed my expectations. * use Werthers original for Failsafe. [recipe link]

WHISKEY CREAM LIQUEUR Domestic Diva: I have tried a number of different recipes to find the perfect liqueur that satisfies my taste buds using whiskey. I personally don’t like the smell or taste of whiskey, but since it’s one of the 3 beverages that are suitable for the failsafe diet, I was on a mission to find a way to like it. This recipe is the one that did it for me! [recipe link]

Fed Up Fact Sheet:
Christmas and food intolerance
|
Christmas can be the worst time of year for people with food intolerance - especially those who haven't yet realised they are affected by food. Food reactions are related to the size of the dose, people eat bigger doses of high salicylate, amine and glutamate foods at Christmas time, reactions can be delayed and cumulative. This is when people are likely to realise they need to take food seriously.
