Spanish Omelette

Cooking for Oscar: After so many years of cooking FAILSAFE food, I hardly every come across something new that I don’t have to modify terribly much.  I don’t know how I missed Spanish omelettes. With this recipe from BBC Good Food only needed to swap leek for onion and change the oil.  It makes for a very simple and quick mid week meal served with a salad, would be great for weekend brunch, and the left overs go well in the lunch box. Parsley is mainly used as a garnish for elimination diet, you can sub for chives or do half chives and half parsley for this recipe.

Chicken Salad with Cashew Dressing

Domestic Diva: One of the things I love to have in warmer weather is salads. If I may say so myself, it was really good and the dressing was to die for! [read more]

Christmas and food intolerance

Christmas can be the worst time of year for people with food intolerance - especially those who haven't yet realised they are affected by food.

Food reactions are related to the size of the dose, people eat bigger doses of high salicylate, amine and glutamate foods at Christmas time, reactions can be delayed and cumulative. This is when people are likely to realise they need to take food seriously. [read more]

Creme Caramel

Failsafe Foodie: Christmas is just around the corner and who can really believe that it has come around so quickly. I barely feel like I've gotten the hang of this year and now it's almost over.

Last night we put up our Christmas tree and I always like to make a nice meal to have to make the event just a bit more special. We enjoyed a family favourite Chicken with 40 cloves of garlic and for dessert I made creme caramel again adapted from a french book I have. The amazing thing about this is that, besides being incredibly easy, it doesn't taste like rice milk. I have actually made this for visitors who had no idea that it didn't contain dairy until I told them! [read more]

Pear Slushy

Real Failsafe Meals: Yummo!!  And just the thing for a hot and sticky afternoon.  It ticks all the boxes:  fruit, water, cold.  Simple.  The only thing is,  it requires a bit of forethought.  But,  if you haven't got any frozen pear and syrup, then straight from the pantry is fine.  Just not as 'frozen'. Domestic Diva: With the warmer summer months coming upon us, the thought of having the oven on for hours to cook a whole chicken was not appealing at all. Especially for Thanksgiving or Christmas day! Steaming a whole chook in the Varoma sounds like such a much better idea. [read more]

Sue Dengate is petitioning Unilever to remove all Annatto 160b from its Streets ice cream varieties.  Annatto 160b is the only natural colour that can affect some children and adults even worse than artificial colours. It has also been associated with rare allergic reactions.

Annatto 160b is in many Streets ice cream products.  Many food companies have already removed Annatto 160b, yet Unilever still continues to use the colouring in popular Streets ice cream brands. A safe alternative exists: natural beta carotene 160a is a food colour found in many fruit and vegetables and is a precursor to Vitamin A.

Please sign the petition here. Lets make a difference, sign and share with your friends and family!

If you would like to read about some of the effects that Annatto 160b can have, here are some readers responses
