French & Italian dishes

Italy's National Day, the Festa della Repubblica (Republic Day), is celebrated on 2 June and Bastille Day is the national day of France, which is celebrated on 14 July. Some of the recipes from these two countries can be easy to sub for failsafe, and some actually are failsafe.

Last months edition was all about failsafe Pizzas, so make sure you take another look.

I hope you enjoy trying some of these delicious recipes.

Easy Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta with Salted Caramel

Our Italian Table: Panna Cotta is an Italian classic. This very simple versatile dessert is my go-to dessert when I need to both keep it simple but add a little bit of vavoom to my dolci. Panna cotta (‘cooked cream‘ in Italian) literally takes 10 minutes to pull together – that is it! It then rests comfortably for a few hours to thicken. You can even make it a day or two in advance, at the ready as a creamy backdrop for a whole host of toppings.

Arancini - Risotto Balls

Failsafe Foodie: Risotto is something I can never make the right amount of. I don't think I've ever really tried to be honest. But risotto is also pretty uninspiring reheated. So what do you do with it? You turn it into balls!

No-Tomato Sauce

Cooking For Oscar: My big success in the kitchen was to make a sauce for Oscar that could compete with the tomato sauce that everyone else, including his mum and dad, eat. And I did it! It tastes like tomato sauce and looks like the home made tomato sauce my mum and hubby make, but it has no tomato.

Nola: "Quiche is a beautiful thing. It's next-level eggs". Goats cheese is failsafe if mild like a cottage, cream or ricotta style; otherwise use philly cheese for this recipe if on strict elimination. Leave out pepper. Half and half milk is a mixture of half milk and half cream.
